Moving time! (yeah, once again…)

On late December 2007 it was time for me to move this blog from my its original location to a new home.

As I had a lot on my plate, I needed something quick and painless. The most natural choice for me was WordPress.com. Should anyone not know, the makers of the truly excellent software that runs this blog also happen to offer free hosting for it… A perfect world.

But –there always seems to be at least one but- shortly after making the transition I found that in order to slowly evolve this blog into what I would like it to be, I needed the ability to tweak things a bit further than those knowledgeable folks at WordPress.com would allow me to.

Why isn’t that possible over there? For obvious security reasons… and a few technical ones as well.

To give you one quick example, in between the techie reasons falls the impossibility for users to insert google analytics code. WordPress.com as a whole already has tracking enabled with Google. This way every user gets some useful stats as part of their default features. Not close to as much as google analytics would give normally you, but useful info nonetheless.

Unfortunately that site wide arrangement is apparently incompatible with users setting up their on tracking.

Aesthetics would be another reason. While they offer many ‘themes’ for presenting your site to the world, the one I used before wasn’t there… That translated into discovering ‘Hemmingway’, the theme that you’re looking at right now… with which I almost instantly fell in love.

But… yes, second but here…

I’ve never been a black and/or white kind of guy. While I like the layout very much, I wanted to tweak the theme a little bit more to my liking. Once again, a bit more than hey would allow me to do over WordPress.com with basic CSS tweaking…

Having all this in mind, a new location change was in order.

This will be my goodbye post from this great place. Later today, this post will be replicated at the new site. I hope you will like it.

Let me close by saying that in any case WordPress.com offers a truly excellent service and I’m grateful to the people behind it. Thank you so very much guys for the excellent software, for the great service and above all, for all your time and efforts.
