IE/NWL’s Executive LLM cool quotes

Please find below for your learning and reading pleasure, a couple of remarkable and ultimately ‘cool’ quotes from the various Professors we have had the privilege of having at Intituto de Empresa / North Western Law’s joint Executive LLM Masters Program.

This list does not intend to be and by no means is a complete and exhaustive recollection of every remarkable quote said during the Master… I am surely missing a bunch of them… it will hopefully be updated… as I remember or I’m reminded of more of them… and as new ones are ‘throwst upon us’…

Prof. Fred McChesney:

Fred’s opening line on the first day of our Nov’06 US Antitrust course:

“Antitrust Law is America’s gift to the world.”

Citing Winston Churchill… while reviewing some case-Law:

“Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.”

Answering a question from a fellow course student, about the effects of ignoring the FTC-DOJ guidelines on Mergers, quoting a conversation between a sergeant and a soldier during World War II:

“Son, the Army can’t make you do anything… But it can sure make you wish you had.”

Prof. Gregory John Marsden:

“ ‘Screw’ is a commonly accepted legal term of art.”

Prof. James J. Hanks:

“Minority shareholders have sometimes been regarded as ‘highly disagreeable people’”

(…)“Shareholders were ’screwed’ –to use a generally accepted law term…”(…)

Prof. Garen Markarian:

“Yalla, yalla, yalla… ciao, ciao, ciao, ciao, ciaoooooooooooooooo”
