What to generally expect from this weblog in the near future…

The following is an attempt to summarize my current personal interests in one line:

I enjoy family life and of course like traveling as well as love reading, I enjoy watching quality movies and TV –this last quality-TV thing not being an intrinsic contradictory statement, trust me… e.g. ‘The West Wing’, have always been intrigued by personal relationships… so that’s the topic I mostly like to read/watch about… (i.e. Woody Allen, Edward Burns, etc.), and have found myself for the last 15 years tinkering with computers/OSs and all sorts of software.

Well… that wasn’t too hard… ;-)

Lately, with a wonderful one year old around and running my own show (Legal practice), there isn’t much energy left for lots of personal projects.

Regardless of the many ‘Someday/Maybe’ items that populate my long term to-do lists (I’m a big fan of lists…), I’ve learned that if you really mean to accomplish something… anything… there is one key element to constantly keep in mind: focus.

–As a side note and to be honest, I’d like to state right away that regardless of how obvious this last point may seem to the reader, yours truly finds it extremely difficult to keep concentration nowadays at any given task in our constant attention hungry and interruption driven world.–

So, aiming to provide myself with a clear goal in which to focus here (remember: the main purpose of this blog is to force and discipline myself into writing on a regular basis…), I’ve set myself up with a clear goal…

But before getting into that, let me introduce the topic briefly:

As I previously noted, computers have always been one of my main hobbies. I arrived to the mac platform at the end of 2003 (a later post will further delve into this…) and almost instantly fell in love with the mac style and way of doing things… the mac-like experience everyone who has tried it becomes quickly addicted to…

So in these last two years I started exploring the mac universe and discovered a number of really interesting and appealing apps that have absorbed most of my weekends and loose weekday hours… Some of them are: Devonthink Pro, Tinderbox, OmniOutliner Pro, VoodooPad, Circus Ponies NoteBook… as well as lately Mori and Yojimbo… (start to notice a pattern… anyone?…)

I own licenses for all of them as well as for other also great mac software such as: Ulysses, Copywrite, TextMate (BTW: this post is being written in this app.), NetNewsWire, OmniWeb… and many many others… which I’ve mainly bought in my own personal quest for the holy grail of the personal information management system/workflow… and this is what I mainly would like to write about here…

Not that there aren’t a somewhat relevant amount of people already writing about this… but not only this topic interests me very, very much but also this way I might force myself to approach dealing and learning these apps. at a perhaps more ‘professional’ –if you’ll allow me– level… and hopefully all this will probably as well make me extract more ‘value’ from these ‘investments’…

This is not to say I won’t be writing about other things that occasionally will pop up in my mind and that I would find worth my/the reader’s while to write/read about.

I don’t know… I’ll guess we’ll have to wait and see…

All the best, tfserna
